PHILADELPHIA – In a North Philadelphia house fire Saturday night, three adults sustained injuries and three children were rescued by the emergency rescue team.

A little before 8:30 in the evening, a fire broke out in the 2nd floor of an apartment located at 2548 North 17th Street. Police received reports that there were people trapped inside.
It was a frightful scene as the fire fighters worked to save the family trapped inside.

Rescue workers found a mother suffered third degree burns, as well as two other adults who were transported to Temple University Hospital for smoke inhalation.

Witnesses said it was a fast moving fire that ripped through the second floor apartment of the row, and there were reports that a family of six were trapped inside.

A neighbor, Geneva Nunez said that there were lots of smoke and fire but she id her best to help the family trapped inside.
Neighbors, including Geneva Nunez, moved into action around 8:30 that Saturday night when they saw the heavy smoke and flames shooting from the windows.

They were aware that there was a family inside: three adults consisting of a grandmother along with a man and a woman believed to be the parents and three small children.

Nunez said that when she ran across the street and I met everybody trying to get out. She immediately took the two little girls and took them to her house. Then she went back again to get the father, the mother and the baby boy.

Nunez was able to get the grandmother to safety before she found the father and the mother who was holding the little boy in the doorway. The mother was standing on the floor where all of the stuff was falling into her face, and her face was just getting burned up. Nunez said she tried to pull her out.

Firefighters arrived and they worked for a half hour trying to get the fire under control.

Those who feared for the family were thankful no one was killed.
Firefighters say the injuries to the family appeared to be non-life threatening as they are recovering at Temple University Hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
