UPPER DARBY, Pa. – This is a prelude to the lashing rains and high winds as Supergirl Sandy approaches Pennsylvania. A baby was injured when a tree fell in the midst of the severe weather last Monday.

The incident happened at 5:14 o’clock early morning at a residence in 400 block of School Lane in Upper Darby. According to the police, a tree, due to the strong winds, fell between two homes, partially striking one of the twin homes in the area.

This morning, a newly born baby narrowly escaped serious injury when a tree fell in the middle of a twin home in Drexel Hill. It fell, came through the roof and damaged a power line.

A tree branch landed on the crib and caused minor lacerations on the baby. Fortunately, the tree landed on the opposite side of the room from where the baby was sleeping, so the child was not seriously injured.

According to Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood, the baby was rushed to the hospital and after being checked out by pediatricians; the infant was declared in otherwise good condition.

The tree damaged the baby’s nursery, as well as a gas meter at the home on School House Lane, but fortunately, there was no fire.
